How to Consume Shilajit
Shilajit is a mineral-based sticky tar-like substance which is made up of decomposed plant remains, exuded from the rocks present in the Himalayas at an altitude of 1000 to 5000 meters above sea level. It contains more than 85 minerals including zinc, iron, lead, and copper.
Shilajit is a popular raw material used in Ayurvedic medicine. It is a safe and effective supplement that can have a good effect on your overall health. It acts as an antioxidant to improve your body’s immunity and memory; and fights inflammation. Shilajit is a diuretic and removes excess fluid from body.
The therapeutic uses of shilajit are in fighting fatigue, Alzheimer’s disease, respiratory tract infection, cancer, heavy metal toxicity, hypoxia, etc.
How Much and How Long
Shilajit is a powerful energy supplement and prolonged regular consumption can lead to dependency. So, ideally, it must be taken in cycles. Otherwise, the use of supplements regularly makes body tolerant to it and the person may become dependent on using it.

Based on froms available in market, the ideal consumption for a healthy adult is:

|Resin or raw Shilajit
|1 Rice grain-sized or 100 gm
|Liquid, Resin or Raw Shilajit:
|1/16 teaspoon or 0.2ml
|1/16 teaspoon or 150mg
|1 capsule twice a day or directed by a medical practitioner
|1 tablet twice a day or directed by a medical practitioner
|Take 2 to 4 pinches of Shilajit powder, and mix it with honey or lukewarm milk.
|Take 1 Shilajit capsule and swallow it with lukewarm milk.
|Take 1 tablet with lukewarm milk after food, twice a day
|Shilajit Black Tea
|Put 1.5 cups of water in a bowl, add ½ teaspoon of tea and bring it to boil for 5 minutes. Next, strain it and add 2 pinch of Shilajit powder.
The daily suggested intake for adults with normal body mass index (BMI) is 250 to 500mg. The resins, considered the purest form, are more effective with doses even as low as 50 to 200mg.
To find the maximum Shilajit dosage, begin by taking a piece of 100mg once per day. And continue to take the same amount 2-3 times per day. Then gradually increase the in-take dosage of 300 mg to achieve the desired benefits.
But these usually work better for underweight people.
The following factors will affect how much Shilajit you should take per day:
- Body size
- Body mass index (BMI)
- General health
- Food and another lifestyle
Remember, it is a new experience for your body; if you consume at higher amounts, it does produce shilajit side effects. You may encounter undesired effects such as difficulty in sleep or uncomfortable digestion process. These are generally temporary symptoms but also an indicator that you need to step down the Shilajit dosage for a few more days, and then try to increase again.

- The traditional way of taking shilajit is plain and unmixed. Just place it under the tongue and wait until it dissolves in your mouth. Although, Ayurvedic doctors suggest taking Shilajit with one or a combination of the following organic ingredients to increase the delivery of adaptogenic effects to the body:
- Hot milk
- Raw or unpasteurized honey
